Thoughts On Being Grateful & Appreciative

Thanksgiving 2009

Have a wonderful and joyous Thanksgiving. Enjoy this special day and surround yourself with the people you love. It’s been a very challenging year for many of us, and I know we all have a lot to be grateful (thankful) for! Please take some time to reflect on the following thoughts on being “Grateful and Appreciative”, remaining mindful of these thoughts can and will change your life. In addition, live each day to the fullest, cherish every moment.. good or bad, and never take your good health for granted. Smile everyday, be good to yourself and the people around you. Lend a helping hand when possible, being of service is such a beautiful thing, Texas and I are so blessed to experience that everyday!!!

Big Love, Good Health and A Ton Of Happiness!

Markus & Texas / The Fitness Underground-Los Angeles

One recurring attribute of people who have happiness (or inner peace and contentment) is the attribute of being grateful and appreciative for what is all around them. This is an attribute that all of us could well cultivate, for it changes how we feel.

* Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life.

* Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

* You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.

* Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.

* Gratitude creates the most wonderful feeling. It can resolve disputes. It can strengthen friendships. And it makes us better people.

* Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.

* If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.

* When a person doesn’t have gratitude, something is missing in his or her humanity. A person can almost be defined by his or her attitude toward gratitude.

* Gratefulness and simple living go hand in hand. When we are grateful, we appreciate life’s free gifts: friendship and solitude; movement and rest; Nature’s bounty and her spare winter introversion; our own alternating sonata movements of joy, sorrow, and joy’s resurgence. Through this appreciation, we find contentment.

* Whatever we are waiting for – peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of simple abundance – it will surely come to us, but only when we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart.

* Grateful people report higher levels of positive emotions, life satisfaction, vitality, optimism and lower levels of depression and stress. The disposition toward gratitude appears to enhance pleasant feeling states more than it diminishes unpleasant emotions. Grateful people do not deny or ignore the negative aspects of life.

“Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.”
— Edward Sandford Martin
