We’re a busy nation. We don’t have time to cook, let alone get to the market every day – we have stuff to do! So, we think, “we need to stock up, buy in bulk, shop once a week.” That’s how processed food came to take over the food chain. Corporations figured out how to profit from our time deficit. And boy are we paying for it!
Processed foods make up about 60% of our diet. These product are nothing but cheap chemicals and diluted whole ingredients that offer no nutritional value whatsoever. One of the biggest problem ingredients to keep an eye out for is hygrogenated oil.
If there are any evil foods in the world, they include hydrogenated fats. Created for the convenience of the processed food industry, hydrogenated fats allow foods like cookies, crackers, chips, pies & bread to sit on the shelf forever & still retain their “freshness.” Isn’t there something wrong with a cookie that can be eaten months (or even years) after it was produced?
Hydrogenated fats increas your LDL (bad) cholesterol & triglycerides and lower your HDL (good) cholesterol. They also shrink the size of your LDL particles, which make them more likely to clot & dramatically increase your risk of heart attack. *Just a 2% increase in trans-fatty acids increase your chance of heart attack by 23%.
Eating excess fried foods (which also contain trans fat) increases your risk of metabolic syndrome by 25%.
If you make a steady diet of trans fats, heart disease is virtually guaranteed.
You can also add on hardening of the arteries, diabetes, osteoporosis and Alzheimers as very good posibilities as well.
A study by the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that you only need to eat 20-60 calories a day from artificial trans fats to start damaging your heart.
And all those products that claim “no trans fats” on their label…? Manufacturers are permitted to use that claim as long as one portion contains less than 500 milligrams of trans fats. A couple extra smears of that “zero tans fats” margarine & a couple extra “trans free” cookies can get you way over that 20 calorie mark pretty darn fast.
Grab a trash bag, go through your kitchen and put this stuff right in the garbage.
