EAT WELL: A Healthy Breakfast In A Flash

If you don’t know what to have for breakfast tomorrow …? If you are short on time and need to fuel up fast, try a Smoothie (and I’m not talking about a mega calorie-sugar packed “so called healthy smoothie” from places like Robeks or Jamba Juice:

Jamba Juice: Strawberry Energizer (16 oz) * 300 calories and 63 grams of Sugar / Jamba Juice Orange Dream (16 oz) * 350 calories and 70 grams of Sugar.  / Aloha Pineapple (16 oz) * 300 calories and 65 grams of sugar.

Robeks: Power Smoothie (16 oz) * 202 calories and 32 grams of Sugar / Venice Burner (16 oz) 231 calories and 38 grams of Sugar

SODA  (a 12 oz can of Coke)  * 200 calories and 55 grams of Sugar

Strawberry Smoothie
This health-promoting smoothie recipe provides a wonderful combination of flavors and nutrition to your Healthiest Way of Eating. The addition of tahini helps keep you satiated for a longer period than your usual smoothie.

Prep and Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

4 large strawberries
¼ cup low-fat plain yogurt
1 cup fresh orange juice
1 TBS tahini*
1 medium size banana
½ tsp vanilla
1 TBS honey

* Tahini is sesame seed butter and can be found in natural food stores or Middle Eastern groceries.

Directions:

Remove stems from strawberries and wash.
Blend all ingredients in blender until smooth.
Serve 2 (8 oz glass servings)

Tip: Don’t be afraid to explore the endless possibilities of healthy ingredients that can be added to your Smoothie..!
